On Bush's alleged religious influences

It's not that I don't think Bush does what he does based on his religion- but you have to wonder exactly what kind of god he's listening to. Good song.

"When The President Talks To God"- Bright Eyes

When the president talks to God
Are the conversations brief or long?
Does he ask to rape our women’s' rights
And send poor farm kids off to die?
Does God suggest an oil hike
When the president talks to God?

When the president talks to God
Are the consonants all hard or soft?
Is he resolute all down the line?
Is every issue black or white?
Does what God say ever change his mind
When the president talks to God?

When the president talks to God
Does he fake that drawl or merely nod?
Agree which convicts should be killed?
Where prisons should be built and filled?
Which voter fraud must be concealed
When the president talks to God?

When the president talks to God
I wonder which one plays the better cop
We should find some jobs, the ghetto's broke
No, they're lazy, George, I say we don't
Just give 'em more liquor stores and dirty coke
That's what God recommends
When the president talks to God

Do they drink near beer and go play golf
While they pick which countries to invade
Which Muslim souls still can be saved?
I guess god just calls a spade a spade
When the president talks to God

When the president talks to God
Does he ever think that maybe he's not?
That that voice is just inside his head
When he kneels next to the presidential bed
Does he ever smell his own bullshit
When the president talks to God?
I doubt it

Way to go, us.

I love how we're equal-opportunity assholes here. An article on making sure those pesky migrant homos can't be together (as if migrant same-sex couples don't have ENOUGH problems to worry about!): http://www.azcentral.com/php-bin/clicktrack/email.php/5823517

Maybe someday our society will grow up and start allowing people to be themselves, and realize that helping loving couples of whatever orientation and national origin CAN ONLY BE GOOD! Maybe our world will be a better place when our children grow up learning from their parents and society that we VALUE love and commitment, no matter what.

Pro-Family and Pro-Life

The more I think about the terms "Pro-Family" and "Pro-Life", the more I realize exactly how much bullcrap they are. People who call themselves pro-family are anti-gay marriage, anti-domestic partnerships, anti-gay adoption... can anyone tell me how any of these things are PRO-family? Two people loving each other can't possibly HURT families, guys. Two people (or one person) who want to extend their arms to a child who has been abused, neglected, abandoned, or orphaned cannot possibly HURT families. And your hatred causes pain to families- your kids, to whom you spout these "pro-family" values, are the ones who tease their peers for not fitting into gender norms, say "that's so gay!" all day in high school, and one night, with their friends, run into a couple of gay guys minding their own business at an ATM and physically and verbally assault them for being gay. Not allowing LGBT people to adopt children leaves thousands and thousands of children, who need nothing more than a loving home to give them hope and allow them to be healthy members of society, out on the street or in group homes that do not even closely resemble a family. And you, as parents, are the ones who kick their gay children out on the street, cause them to commit suicide because of the self-hatred you've taught them, or make them have to find families of their own because the one they grew up in cannot accept them the way they are. What wonderful families you have, people. I can see why you'd want to protect them.

And pro-lifers are generally also anti-gay, support the more pro-war politicians out there, are anti-environmentalism, and are pro-capital punishment. My brain may well explode from the hypocrisy of it all.

Labels suck. They suck even more when they're NOT FUCKING APPLICABLE. Of course, the whole rhetoric of the pro-life, pro-family crowd itself is enough to send me into sobbing hysterics because it's so damn nonsensical, so I don't know why what they call themselves is such a big surprise.

Oh yeah. There's a vigil tonight at IBT's for the two unsuspecting gay men I mentioned in the rant above. I'm headed that way now. Long live the traditional American family that makes events like this necessary. Bastards.
